Camp size is limited to 12 – 16. A 16-gig thumb drive for archiving photos is required. Each student brings a water bottle, and bag lunch. On finding Swamp Fox!

A week of traveling back in time, researching, writing and creating short video stories of Francis Marion and his contributions to saving the colonies from British rule. We research at museums, using the iPad and Iographers, and then travel out to the Hampton Plantation, that borders the Francis Marion Forest. Here in the “Big House” the Swamp Fox often found lodging and was known to those on the plantation.

History of Baseball - yesterday!

June 24-28, 2019

The History of Baseball - continues!

We continue to work on our film: The History of Baseball, yesterday today and tomorrow! This week we focus on the yesterday to include playing “rounders” at Ft. Sumter during the Civil War  (we go to Ft. Sumter) and continuing forward into the next century.

How did radio help Baseball grow into America’s favorite pastime? We create our own radio channel (it’s a podcast) and re-enact a play by play for a game using all the bells and whistles that were used in the 1930’s.

There were the Negro leagues, and the American and National teams,  and ultimately the breaking of the color line by Jackie Robinson and Larry Doby in 1947. We attend a RiverDogs game  (Sunday, June 30th- honoring Larry Doby)

Monday - we prepare to spend each following day on the harbor, collecting the stories of the SC Branch Harbor Pilots and the SC  Port Authority, the islands, the light houses and we may just run into pirates. There are several water adventures, and by the end of the week, we have gathered multiple stories about our coastline - from the creatures we find in our nearby waters, to the lighthouses and visitors from the land of pirates.  This week we spend outside due to the July weather that is expected, and students should prepare for sunscreen, and cooling off at the Waterfront Park from time to time.
